Diageo and FIU Graduate another Learning Skills for Life Class
Learning Skills for Life is a program designed to inspire and transform the lives of people throughout the different communities in which DIAGEO conducts business. With a focus on adult education, the program is implemented in partnership with local educational, governmental, and training organizations. Learning Skills for Life provides tools, training and skills in four key areas related to Diageo’s industry and value chain: Hospitality, Retail, Entrepreneurship and Bartending. In 2012, Diageo partnered with Florida International University (FIU) Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management to launch the first US-based program of Learning Skills for Life.
Diageo and FIU graduated the latest Learning Skills for Life class on April 15 at the FIU Kovens Conference Center. 48 proud graduates and their families gathered to celebrate this momentous day.
The energy in the room was palpable and spirits were high as each graduate’s name was called. Jaime Graña, Managing Director of Diageo WestLAC, shared heartfelt and inspirational words with all those in attendance.
“Today we are celebrating big time because of the effort and commitment you have all put forth to deliver something for you and your family going forward,” said Graña. “In Diageo we have a purpose – celebrating life every day, everywhere. I have always thought that people in life who can find their purpose achieve whatever they decide to achieve.”
Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a reception with food and wine. The afternoon provided an opportunity for these graduates to celebrate this major achievement.
As the program continues to grow, it continues to receive recognition and accolades. Recently, Learning for Life accepted the prestigious Award for Education at the Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne amongst other industry and community leaders at the 12th annual Beacon Awards. These awards recognize outstanding businesses in the South Florida community.
